Malsha Fernando - clinical psychology registrar

Malsha Fernando

Clinical Psychology Registrar, Registered Psychologist

Master of Clinical Psychology (Macquarie University), Bachelor of Psychological Sciences Honours (1st class, La Trobe University)

Just as our fingerprints are unique, I truly believe that every client I work with is one of a kind. That’s why I take a personalised approach to therapy, tailored to individual needs. I bring warmth, compassion, and curiosity to every session. I understand that taking the first step towards therapy can be daunting, but I am here to support you every step of the way. Together, we’ll unpack what feels challenging, build on your strengths, and work towards personal growth.

Malsha is a Clinical Psychology Registrar who offers a warm and non-judgmental space where clients feel seen, heard, and understood. She takes a holistic and culturally responsive approach to therapy, recognising the personal, social, and cultural factors that shape an individual’s experiences.

Born and raised in Australia, and coming from a culturally diverse background, Malsha brings a rich cultural lens to her practice. This perspective informs her understanding of identity, belonging, and the ways in which cultural values and experiences influence emotional wellbeing. She is also committed to providing inclusive and affirming care for people of all cultures, genders, and sexual orientations.

Her therapeutic approach is integrative and individualised, drawing on evidence-based treatments such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS).

Malsha has a particular interest in how early life relationships and experiences shape the way people make sense of and respond to the world in the present. In therapy, this involves identifying and resolving unhelpful life patterns that may restrict personal growth. Her aim is to provide an attentive and collaborative space where these patterns can be explored, creating room for new ways of being and new strengths to emerge.

Malsha works with adolescents and adults across a wide range of concerns. She has experience in both public health and private practice settings including Headspace and the Sydney Children’s Hospital Network. She has experience supporting individuals who struggle with anxiety, depression, stress, low self-esteem, sleep difficulties, relationship challenges, complex trauma, and issues related to cultural identity and adjustment.
